Pawn Promenade Classical

November 28th, 2025

St. John's, NL. MUN Engineering (SJ Carew Building) Cafeteria
240 Prince Philip Drive

Organizer: Steve Martin

Pawn Promenade weekend classical concluded a few hours ago, and the winner was Ryan Pickard!

Ryan finished in clear first and undefeated with 4.5/5. Great job!

Ryan has been playing super well and showed persistence in some long struggles.

2nd place was Steve with 4/5

Top Junior was Raj Sancheti who was also clear third place with 3.5/5

Top U-1600 prize went to Rensel Matthew Bacuyag with 2.5/5.

Despite not winning a prize, Maya Kemaoglu had a great performance also with 3/5, tying for 4th and drawing two players above 1800.

I will send etransfers to the prize winners. Congratulations!

Welcome to both Johannes Ruhland and Kiril Pliuiko who both played their first CFC tournaments.

It seems like there were more draws than usual in this tournament, except for the first round which funnily had no draws at all.

Thanks to everyone for playing and for making it a fun weekend of chess.

Phone Policy: Phones are to be placed face down next to your clock and powered off.

Any phone that rings, vibrates, or is found on a player’s person during a game will result in one warning being issued, and the next time will result in forfeiture of that game.
Spectators should not use phones in the playing hall. If they need to, they should step outside.

General rules and etiquette: No talking, or making loud noises, or otherwise distracting your opponent or other players. Standard CFC rules apply according to the CFC Handbook. Currently the CFC site has some errors in links they are using. It should link to FIDE Laws of Chess.

At the tournament site, I will make some announcements for players who may be new to over the board chess, such as touch move rules, using the same hand to move pieces and press clock and so on.

If you have any questions, please email stevew8@gmail.com

I hope you enjoy the tournament!
