2026 NL Rapid Chess Championships

This is a preliminary announcement for the 2026 NL Rapid Chess Championship

The single-day event will take place Saturday, July 18 at the Engineering Lounge (EN 4000) and boardroom at Engineering Building (SJ Carew Building) at MUN in St. John's. It is located at 240 Prince Philip Drive. 

Prizes and gift cards will be available. 

Confirmed details:

Time - Check in 10am, R1 start 1030am. Rounds will start 5-10 mins after the previous round ends

Format - 8 Round swiss in both sections. Time control is 10 + 5. Open and U1500 sections

Prizes - $150 donation from HypeBox, $100 donation from anonymous donor, $50 from anonymous donor, as well as some chess books. Gift cards from family Market Cafe as door prizes. Some refreshments sponsored by CakeyHand

$300 donations 

Open section $100 top junior prize

U1500 $100 top junior prize 

Remaining 100$ plus 100$ from entry fees as Open section 100$ best performance prize

The rest of the entry fees will be split 50% 30% 20% in each section for 1st 2nd 3rd. We will do playoffs.

1st gets a trophy and 2nd and 3rd will get medals

Entry fee 25$ pre registration, 35$ at the door. 

Form will be provided soon for pre-registration. 

Conference room will be for spectators. IMPORTANT: No food or drink in conference room. Cafeteria downstairs can be used for lunch. Snacks available in main lounge away from playing area

Conference room will have boards for scrap games.
