The Lake Melville Chess Club is a small but fun group, with players ranging from beginner (didn’t know how the pieces moved at the time of joining) to master. We mostly play casual chess, but we often study puzzles and endgames together, and we are becoming increasingly interested in competitive play. We have an in-house ladder, through which members can play games that will be officially rated by the Chess Federation of Canada. (Membership is free, but rated play requires a CFC membership, which can be purchased at the club or online at http://www.chess.ca.) In March 2013 we also hosted the first annual Labrador Open Chess Championship (the second ever rated chess tournament in Labrador, and the first since the previous incarnation of this club, in 2005).
We meet on Monday evenings at 7:00 in room 243 at the College of the North Atlantic, and typically take a break during the summer and around Christmas time. Drop-ins are very welcome.
